Blue Ivy Carter is now a BET Award winner. The 8-year-old daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z won the award for her work on “Brown Skin Girl,” along with Beyoncé, Wizkid, and SAINt JHN. The song originally appeared on The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack in 2019.
Her award was announced by Erica Ash, who hosted the BET Awards pre-show. She said “the songs in this category are as inspiring as they are empowering. Their themes speak to the bet Her audience—plus they made us bop a little bit too.”
This isn’t the first award Blue Ivy has picked up for “Brown Skin Girl.” She also won the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award at the 2019 BET Soul Train Awards and Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration at the 2020 NAACP Image Awards.
In addition to already winning an award for her music, Blue Ivy Carter has been doing her best to educate people during this pandemic. In an April PDA video, she used a bowl of water, pepper, and soap to demonstrate how effective hand soap is against the virus.
“This is why it’s very important to wash your hands,” she said in the video. “If you wash your hands, your hands will stay clean, but if you keep your hands dirty, you might get sick.”
